Cool facts about Tony Gilroy
By: Jake Rajala
Tony Gilroy has been a rising figure in Star Wars. Gilroy is the program creator of “Andor”, which is arguably the best Star Wars show. Andor garnered an 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. This wasn’t the first successful project by Gilroy. He was also a part of the screenplay for “Rogue One”. The spin-off of Star Wars was liked by 86% of Google users (and had an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score). With that said, I’m going to lay out 5 things to know about Tony Gilroy.
- The Bourne
It wouldn’t be wise to talk about “The Bourne” without mentioning Tony. He has his hands all over, “The Bourne Identity”, “The Bourne Supremacy”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”, and “The Bourne Legacy”.
The Bourne Ultimatum garnered the best reviews. He recorded an 92% Rotten Tomatoes score & 87% of Google users liked it.
- Star Wars
Star Wars wasn’t a part of the plan for Tony. He did watch Star Wars: A New Hope is theaters. However, he didn’t watch the other shows (such as The Mandalorian) during his work on Andor. I’m not sure if this made him have more unique ideas for Star Wars. Let it be known that there won’t be a third season of Andor. Yes, it’s tragic.
- University
It may come as a surprise, but Tony did not graduate from college. He is one of many genius directors in the entertainment to not graduate from university. Of course, legends like Stanley Kubrick, James Cameron, and Quentin Taratino didn’t gain a college degree.
I love to see new faces in Star Wars. We need more original work to be done. Taika Waititi and Jon Favreau are legends and people should get tickets as soon as possible for their Star Wars shows. I still love to see more under the radar movie directors work on Star Wars.
Honorable Mention:
- Brother
It may not come as a surprise to hear that Dan Gilroy is the younger brother than Tony. Dan is also a (superb) movie director. Some of his work is “Nightcrawler” and “Roman J Israel Esq.”.
